VET CLUSTER
The Bendigo Vocational Education and Training (VET) Cluster is a partnership between ten secondary schools, TAFE and Registered Training Organisations (RTOs) working together to give students better access to high-quality VET.
The Cluster empowers students from all schools to engage in a wide range of nationally recognised and Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) approved VET programs. These programs help students build work skills, explore career pathways, and stay engaged with their learning.
The Bendigo VET Cluster aims to:
Make it easier for students to access VET Delivered to Secondary Students (VDSS) programs.
Work together as a group of schools to offer more course options and support student pathways.
Ensure all students have a fair chance to join VET programs, no matter which school they attend.
Help students, families, and schools learn more about the VET courses available across the region.
Keep improving upon local programs and partnerships to make sure they meet student needs.
Work with local training providers and industries to offer courses that match local job opportunities.
Use data and feedback to keep improving how VET is offered in Bendigo and surrounding regions.
Help schools build the skills and knowledge they need to offer strong VET programs.
Ensure students get the right advice and support when planning their career and study pathways.
WHAT IS VET?
VET is practical, hands-on learning that equips students with real-world skills for specific industries.
By completing a VET course while at school, students gain a nationally recognised qualification that demonstrates their ability to apply real skills in the workplace. VET also contributes towards the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE), VCE Vocational Major (VM), or Victorian Pathways Certificate (VPC), helping students stay engaged and complete their secondary education.
Students also develop specialised knowledge in areas they’re passionate about, with pathways into employment, further training or higher education. Some students can even earn while they learn by undertaking a School-Based Apprenticeship or Traineeship (SBAT) - combining paid work, training and school.
VET is more than a subject, it’s a powerful step toward future careers, training or university. It helps young people explore options, build confidence and get a head start on their future.
VET builds:
Technical skills
How to do the job
Employability skills
Such as teamwork and communication
Industry knowledge
Real insight into how the workplace operates

Priority Industries
VCE VET priority industries are sectors experiencing strong job growth and a high demand for skilled workers. These pathways are aligned with Victoria’s fastest-growing industries and key government priorities—offering students the opportunity to gain skills that are in demand now and into the future.
By choosing a VET subject in a priority industry, students will be training in areas where employers are actively seeking new talent. This can increase their chances of finding meaningful work after school, taking the first step into a rewarding career.
VET APPLICATION PROCESS
Student Guide: How to Enrol in a Bendigo VET Cluster Program
-
Start by discussing your goals with your school’s VET Coordinator or Career Practitioner. Together, you will consider:
Whether VET aligns with your career interests and senior secondary certificate
Any work placement requirements
The recognition of the qualification
Potential ATAR implications
If you decide to pursue a VET course, your VET/Career Coordinator will submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) on your behalf to the Bendigo VET Cluster.
-
A USI is your personal reference number for all nationally recognised training in Australia. It links to your official VET training records and is required before you can complete enrolment. It is free and easy to create online at www.usi.gov.au
-
If you are offered a place in a VET program, your school’s VET/Career Coordinator will email you a link to the Bendigo VET Cluster Enrolment Form.
You will need:
Your USI
Your personal and school details
A parent/guardian to review and complete the permission section
-
Once your enrolment form is submitted, your details will be forwarded to the Registered Training Organisation (RTO) delivering your course.
You will then:
Provide any required documents (e.g. proof of ID) and complete the enrolment process
Be informed of your course start date, location, and expectations
Your personal information will be handled securely in line with privacy laws. Your RTO will also provide their own privacy policy as part of their enrolment process.
